In a world fraught with challenges, the story of Si Guo stands as a beacon of hope, illustrating the profound impact of combined compassion and commitment. Since 2004, Agape Asia has played a pivotal role in altering the course of Si Guo’s life, beginning when our partners first met her as a fifth grader in Guilin, China.
Si Guo’s early life was marked by adversity; both of her parents were handicapped and paralyzed, unable to work or adequately provide for their family. Their meager income came from sporadic bamboo sales, which fell short of covering educational expenses for Si Guo and her siblings. Despite these challenges, the family received some support from caring relatives, ensuring the children received basic care and education.
Agape Asia’s intervention began when Si Guo was in fifth grade and extended through her college years, fostering her growth into a kind, loving individual known for her deep sense of care and spirited determination. Partners at Agape frequently described her as someone who balanced seriousness with playfulness, showcasing her potential.
A poignant update from April 2012 highlighted Si Guo’s character. During the Chinese New Year, after the death of her father, she and her brother took on significant responsibilities to support their mother, engaging in farm work and preparing festive meals, which reflected Si Guo’s growing passion for cooking.
Today, as Si Guo approaches her 31st birthday, her life is a testament to her resilience and the transformative power of support. She recently reconnected with the Agape partner who discovered her in Guilin, reflecting on her journey. Si Guo has since graduated with a degree in clinical medicine from Guangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and now serves as an obstetrician at Hezhou People’s Hospital.
